Popular Nursery Rhymes (Lyrics)

Here are some of Jennifer’s favorite nursery rhymes that she sings to her sons, as well as the children in her music classes and workshops. She believes nursery rhymes are great for the brain in focusing on language and memory, they bring family together in sharing common memories, they are a great group activity, and most importantly they are fun!

Hot Cross Buns Lyrics

Hot cross buns,
Hot cross buns,
One a penny,
Two a penny,
Hot cross buns.

If you have no daughters,
If you have no sons,
One a penny,
Two a penny,
Hot cross buns.

If your sons don’t like them,
They’re the only ones,
One a penny,
Two a penny,
Hot cross buns.

I don’t tell jokes
and I don’t tell puns,
One a penny,
Two a penny,
Hot cross buns.

Get them while they’re hot
and eat them by the ton,
One a penny,
Two a penny,
Hot cross buns.

Humpty Dumpty Lyrics

Humpty Dumpty sat on the wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king’s horses
And all the king’s men
Couldn’t put Humpty Dumpty
Together again.

Humpty Dumpty sat on the wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
The more the girls cried,
The harder they tried,
To put Humpty Dumpty
Together again.

Humpty Dumpty sat on the wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king’s horses
And all the king’s men
Finally put him
Together again.

If You Are Happy and You Know It Lyrics

If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands. (Clap, Clap.)

If you’re happy and you know it, then your face will surely show it.
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands. (Clap, Clap.)

If you’re angry and you know it, stamp your feet. (Stomp, Stomp.)
If you’re angry and you know it, stamp your feet. (Stomp, Stomp.)
If you’re angry and you know it, then your feet will surely show it.
If you’re angry and you know it, stamp your feet. (Stomp, Stomp.)

If you’re happy and you know it, shout “Hooray!” (“Hoo-ray!”)
If you’re happy and you know it, shout “Hooray!” (“Hoo-ray!”)
If you’re happy and you know it, then your voice will surely show it
If you’re happy and you know it, shout “Hooray!” (“Hoo-ray!”)

I’m a Little Teapot Lyrics

I’m a little teapot, short and stout
Here is my handle, here is my spout
When I get all steamed up hear me shout
Just tip me over and pour me out

I’m a clever teapot, yes it’s true
Here’s an example of what I can do
I can change my handle to my spout
Just tip me over and pour me out

I’m a little teapot, short and stout,
Here is my handle, here is my spout,
When I hear the tea-cups, hear me shout,
“Tip me up and pour me out”

It’s Raining, It’s Pourin Lyrics

Little Boy Blue Lyrics

Little Boy Blue,
Come blow your horn,
The sheep’s in the meadow,
The cow’s in the corn;

Where is the boy
Who looks after the sheep?
He’s under the haystack
Fast asleep.

Up Jack got, and home did trot
As fast as he could caper
He went to bed and bound his head
With vinegar and brown paper.

Little Miss Muffett Lyrics

London Bridge is Falling Down Lyrics

London Bridge is falling down,
Falling down,  Falling down.
London Bridge is falling down,
My fair lady!

Take the key and lock her up,
And lock her up.  And lock her up.
Take the key and lock her up,
My fair lady!

How will we then build it up?,
Build it up,  Build it up.
How we will then build it up?,
My fair lady!

Build it up with silver and gold,
Silver and gold,  Silver and gold.
Build it up with silver and gold,
My fair lady!

Gold and silver I have none,
I have none,  I have none.
Gold and silver I have none,
My fair lady!

Build it up with needles and pins,
Needles and pins,  Needles and pins.
Build it up with needles and pins,
My fair lady!

Pins and needles bend and break,
Bend and break,  Bend and break.
Pins and needles bend and break,
My fair lady.

Build it up with wood and clay,
Wood and clay,  Wood and clay.
Build it up with wood and clay,
My fair lady!

Wood and clay will wash away,
Wash away,  Wash away.
Wood and clay will wash away,
My fair lady.

Build it up with stones so strong,
Stones so strong,  Stones so strong.
Build it up with stones so strong,
My fair lady!

Stones so strong will last so long,
Last so long,  Last so long.
Stones so strong will last so long,
My fair lady.

Mary Had a Little Lamb Lyrics

Mary had a little lamb,
Little lamb, little lamb,
Mary had a little lamb,
Its fleece was white as snow

And everywhere that Mary went,
Mary went, Mary went,
Everywhere that Mary went
The lamb was sure to go

It followed her to school one day
School one day, school one day
It followed her to school one day
Which was against the rules.

It made the children laugh and play,
Laugh and play, laugh and play,
It made the children laugh and play
To see a lamb at school

And so the teacher turned it out,
Turned it out, turned it out,
And so the teacher turned it out,
But still it lingered near

And waited patiently about,
Patiently about, patiently about,
And waited patiently about
Till Mary did appear

“Why does the lamb love Mary so?”
Love Mary so? Love Mary so?
“Why does the lamb love Mary so?”
The eager children cry

“Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know.”
Loves the lamb, you know, loves the lamb, you know
“Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know.”
The teacher did reply

Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary Lyrics

Mary, Mary, quite contrary,
How does your garden grow?
With silver bells and cockleshells,
And pretty maids all in a row.

Mulberry Bush Lyrics

Here we go round the Mulberry Bush
The mulberry bush,  The mulberry bush
Here we go round the Mulberry Bush
So early in the morning

Wash our clothes,  Wash our clothes

So early Monday morning

This is the way we iron our clothes
Iron our clothes,  Iron our clothes
This is the way we iron our clothes
So early Tuesday morning

This is the way we mend our clothes
Mend our clothes,  Mend our clothes
This is the way we mend our clothes
So early Wednesday morning

This is the way we sweep the floor
Sweep the floor,  Sweep the floor
This is the way we sweep the floor
So early Thursday morning

This is the way we scrub the floor
Scrub the floor,  Scrub the floor
This is the way we scrub the floor
So early Friday morning

This is the way we bake our bread
Bake our bread,  Bake our bread
This is the way we bake our bread
So early Saturday morning

This is the way we get dressed up,
Get dressed up,  Get dressed up
This is the way we get dressed up,
So early Sunday morning

Pop Goes the Weasel Lyrics

Round and round the cobbler’s bench
The monkey chased the weasel,
The monkey thought ’twas all in fun
Pop! Goes the weasel.

A penny for a spool of thread
A penny for a needle,
That’s the way the money goes,
Pop! Goes the weasel.

Sing a Song of Sixpence Lyrics

Sing a song of sixpence,
A pocket full of rye,
Four-and-twenty blackbirds
Baked in a pie,
When the pie was opened,
The birds began to sing.
Wasn’t that a dainty dish To set before a king?

The king was in the counting house,
Counting out his money,
The queen was in the parlor,
Eating bread and honey,
The maid was in the garden,
Hanging out the clothes,
When along came a blackbird,
And landed on her nose!

This Old Man Lyrics

This old man, he played one
He played knick-knack on my thumb
With a knick-knack paddywhack, give a dog a bone
This old man came rolling home

This old man, he played two
He played knick-knack on my shoe
With a knick-knack paddywhack, give a dog a bone
This old man came rolling home

This old man, he played three
He played knick-knack on my knee
With a knick-knack paddywhack, give a dog a bone
This old man came rolling home

This old man, he played four
He played knick-knack on my door
With a knick-knack paddywhack, give a dog a bone
This old man came rolling home

This old man, he played five
He played knick-knack on my hive
With a knick-knack paddywhack, give a dog a bone
This old man came rolling home

This old man, he played six
He played knick-knack on my sticks
With a knick-knack paddywhack, give a dog a bone
This old man came rolling home

This old man, he played seven
He played knick-knack up to heaven
With a knick-knack paddywhack, give a dog a bone
This old man came rolling home

With a knick-knack paddywhack, give a dog a bone
This old man came rolling home

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
How I wonder what you are
Up above the world so high
Like a diamond in the sky
